RIP to an artistic legend: David Lynch

Jan 16, 2025

Below is a clip of David playing the roll of legendary filmmaker, John Ford in Steven Spielberg’s 2022 semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans.
While a cameo, the words and feeling behind this clip resonate outward in ways that are far reaching. Much like Lynch’s own works.

Wild, odd, weird, whatever you want to call David’s films and shows, art, they were also inspiring, they caused you to question reality in fun and sometimes deeply sad ways. His work was an experience. There was no right or wrong, up or down, it was everything, everywhere. And nothing at all.

He captured the creative spirit, not in that perfect “I am an artist” way, but in that dirty, dusty, messy, chaotic love and hate filled way.
While he explored, he welcomed you to come along on his wicked journeys with him, but shhh.
Don’t disturb the moments. They’re fleeting and full of so much meaning and yet also so damn meaningless and what the hell are you doing there behind that desk typing away into the void of nothing.

(put that phone down and go outside)

There is light to play with, colors to splash across your skin.
There is poetry in your tears, and a symphony living under your finger nails.

Stop staying stuck in thinking it matters what others think of you and what you create.
Stop stop being you.

Go fucking do something with your creative brain and heart.
You need to feed your own soul what it needs in order for the world to see that life is worth living.

Even if all your soul needs right now is a donut with rainbow sprinkles and damn fine cup of coffee.

Fuck boring. Go for bold.

‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole. It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.’

You are connected to the Moon, David.
And now you know the biggest secret.

Rest easy and thank you for being brave, being strange, for embracing weird, and being YOU.
